Chinese actress Esther Yu’s fans have recently been frequently criticizing her studio for “negligence,” claiming that the team has failed to secure the best terms for their idol when it comes to endorsements and advertising deals. The blame is pointed squarely at her manager, Li Jing, with fans even leaving comments accompanied by obscene hand gestures, stating “Never allow (Li Jing) to handle Esther Yu’s business again.” Some also claim that key members of the fan support group don’t understand the fans’ concerns or the actual situation, demanding disbandment and reorganization. There are even radicals who have gone to the social media accounts of brands endorsed by Esther Yu to hurl abuse—especially targeting the watch brand she endorses—emphasizing that she is the “first Chinese national spokesperson,” and even dragging in the late former spokesperson, actress Barbie Hsu (Xu Xiyuan): “She’s dead, why keep mentioning her?” Such impulsive acts have ignited heated online debate.
As the incident continued to escalate, Esther Yu’s studio finally issued a statement, saying: “During this period, everyone has accompanied, supported, and supervised us. The studio has received all your feedback and concerns. Our aim is to protect Esther, safeguard her work, and our goal is absolutely aligned. In the future, we will strive to secure the resources she rightfully deserves, and will also arrange to add more liaison staff to speed up information flow.” The statement also mentioned that excessive remarks could potentially violate the law and urged everyone to remain rational—but fans’ anger remained unabated, with continued comments and questions: “Why let people who don’t love her do these things?”, “A bunch of useless talk,” and “You’d better do what you say.”
