(Tianjin, 1st) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar today embarks on the second day of his working visit to China, focusing on strengthening Malaysia's diplomatic influence and reaffirming the country’s commitment to multilateralism.
This morning, Anwar is scheduled to deliver a public lecture at Tianjin University titled “Sovereign Interdependence: Building a Shared Future for Asia.”
Tianjin University was founded in 1895 and is renowned for its courses in science, engineering, and technology. The university has also established a dual-degree program in chemical engineering with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).
The lecture is expected to be attended by 500 students, academics, and think-tank representatives.
After the speech, Anwar will hold one-on-one business meetings with two top Chinese companies—Lianlong Company and China Communications Construction Corporation Ltd (CCCC).
Headquartered in Tianjin, Lianlong is a global leader in polymer additives, providing advanced materials for industries such as automotive and electronics.
CCCC is a globally leading comprehensive service provider for large-scale infrastructure projects. This Fortune Global 500 company, listed in Hong Kong, through its subsidiaries is the main contractor for Malaysia’s East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.
Anwar’s main event in Tianjin is at 4pm, when, at the invitation of current chair China, he will deliver a speech at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization+ Summit.
The summit is held at the Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center in Tianjin, attended by more than 20 world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Iranian President Pezeshkian, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Although Malaysia is neither an observer nor a dialogue partner of the SCO, Anwar's attendance at the summit highlights Malaysia’s rising status in global affairs, and also reflects the close strategic mutual trust between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.
The Prime Minister and his delegation will head to Beijing in the evening to begin the second phase of high-level interactions with Chinese leaders and industry giants.
