Chinese President Xi Jinping, during talks with visiting Russian President Putin, emphasized that China-Russia relations are a model of mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation among major powers.
According to Xinhua News Agency, on the morning of the 2nd, Xi Jinping held talks with Putin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Putin was in China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Russia relations have withstood the test of changing international circumstances, setting an example of lasting good-neighborliness, comprehensive strategic cooperation, and mutually beneficial cooperation among major powers. China is willing to closely engage in high-level exchanges with Russia, support each other's development and rejuvenation, coordinate positions in a timely manner on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, and promote further development of China-Russia relations.
Xi Jinping stressed that both China and Russia have strong momentum for their respective development and rejuvenation. The two sides should lead cooperation with major projects, create benchmark cooperation initiatives, and promote deeper integration of interests. Efforts should be made to enhance the resilience of cooperation, elevate mutual understanding, and make every effort to consolidate and safeguard the overall situation of cooperation.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the heads of state of China and Russia visiting each other's countries to attend commemorations of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War fully embodies the responsibility of major powers as main victors in World War II and permanent members of the UN Security Council. It demonstrates the firm resolve to safeguard the achievements of WWII and defend the correct historical perspective of the war.
He said: "My proposal for the Global Governance Initiative is to work together with all like-minded countries to firmly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and to promote a fairer and more reasonable global governance system."
According to the Chinese press release, Putin stated that, under the leadership of himself and Xi Jinping, Russia-China relations are highly strategic and have reached their highest level in history. The unity and cooperation between Russia and China in the World Anti-Fascist War serves as a solid foundation for the development of bilateral ties in the new era. Russia is willing to maintain strategic coordination with China, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance practical cooperation in various fields, and promote the continued high-level development of the relationship between the two countries.
According to Russia’s Sputnik News Agency, during the talks with Xi Jinping, Putin emphasized that the close communication underscores the unprecedentedly high level of the strategic nature of current Russia-China relations.
Putin said: "The memory of combat friendship, mutual trust, mutual assistance, and the resolute defense of our common interests forms the foundation for the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. If back then (during WWII and the Anti-Fascist War) we always stood together on the front lines, now, too, we will continue to stand side by side."
According to comprehensive reports from Xinhua News Agency and Sputnik News Agency, Xi Jinping and Putin had a small tea discussion at Zhongnanhai at noon on Tuesday. The two continued their talks while enjoying tea.
The two sides also signed more than 20 bilateral cooperation documents in fields such as energy, aerospace, artificial intelligence, agriculture, inspection and quarantine, health, scientific research, education, and media.
