Miri Main Water Pipe Repairs Completed; Water Supply to Gradually Resume Within 12 Hours

(Miri, 12th) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang stated that the emergency repair work on the 1100mm main water supply pipe located at 7th Mile Miri-Bintulu Road was successfully completed at around 8:30am this morning.

He said that the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) is currently carrying out system re-pressurization, water distribution network stabilization, and flushing works to ensure water quality reaches satisfactory levels before fully restoring supply to users.

He pointed out that because a large-scale water supply system requires time to be refilled, stabilized, and for normal operation pressure to be restored, water supply to affected areas is expected to gradually resume in phases within the next 12 hours.

He thanked all staff of the Sarawak Water Authority and all units involved in this emergency repair, including the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Fire and Rescue Department, Public Works Department, Sarawak Energy, Miri Resident's Office, Miri District Office, Miri Education Department, Miri City Council, the police, the military, the Red Crescent, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Miri Hospital, state and parliamentary representatives of Miri, media personnel, volunteers, and all units who provided assistance.

He said all units were fully committed and coordinated closely during the repair work to ensure the project was completed smoothly.

In addition, on behalf of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, he also expressed sincere gratitude to the people of Miri for their patience, cooperation, and support during the water disruption period.

“We hope the water restoration work can proceed smoothly and that all affected areas can return to normal supply as soon as possible,” he said.
