Thailand will shorten the visa-free stay period for tourists from 93 countries and regions from 60 days to 30 days in order to combat criminal activities.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara stated on the 12th that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that Thailand already has various types of visas. For the visa-free policy aimed at tourism, a 60-day stay may be too long and could lead to some entrants not using tourism as their true purpose. Therefore, the Thai government plans to propose shortening the visa-free stay period to 30 days in order to enhance management and improve regulatory rigor.
He indicated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will submit a plan to the cabinet next week, proposing to shorten the visa-free stay period for foreign tourists in Thailand from 60 days to 30 days.
However, Parnpree did not disclose the specific implementation date of the policy.
On July 15, 2024, Thailand implemented a visa-free policy for tourists from 93 countries and regions, including Malaysia, allowing them to stay in Thailand for 60 days, with a further extension of up to 30 days available upon application.
In addition, Thai authorities will also strengthen the inspection of other types of visas to ensure that entrants comply with the purpose stated on their visas.
