Veteran Hong Kong actor Ai Wai's wife, Lisa Chan Mei-ling, suffered from familial hereditary polycystic liver and kidney disease. Her condition suddenly worsened two months ago, and ultimately, she could not wait for a liver transplant and succumbed to the illness around 1 p.m. on the 18th, at the age of 61. Ai Wai, suppressing his grief, posted a tribute to his late wife early on the 19th.
Ai Wai shared a lengthy tribute on social media, uploading a final photo of tightly holding Lisa's hand, accompanying her on her last journey. He wrote: “Although there is no longer the shadow of two people in the sunlight, no longer two sets of bowls and chopsticks on the dinner table, and no longer the sound of two people laughing while watching comedy shows, Mei-ling, Mei-ling, I know you are very tired, please rest well.”
Last month, Ai Wai revealed that his wife's liver had enlarged to compress the bile duct, indicating a tendency to worsen. The treatment was of limited help, and her attending doctor advised a liver transplant within three months to avert potential life-threatening danger. Subsequently, on the 10th, he posted that his wife was in critical condition. Because family members did not pass health checks, he hoped for kind-hearted individuals to donate a living liver. Over ten altruistic respondents with matching blood types came forward. Unfortunately, Lisa was placed in intensive care due to severe bacterial infection and abdominal fluid buildup and was unable to undergo the transplant surgery.
