(Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st) Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), through its subsidiary, Brunei Neuroscience Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC), held its inaugural series of medical rehabilitation seminars, focusing on international rehabilitation accreditation and quality improvement frameworks.
The first seminar, titled 'Introduction to Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)', is one of JPMC's ongoing efforts to enhance rehabilitation services, encourage multidisciplinary collaboration, and engage with international best practices, with the aim of benefiting patients and the public.
JPMC Senior Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, Dato Professor Zaliha, delivered the opening speech and introduced the guest speaker. CARF International Managing Director for Medical Rehabilitation & Aging Services, Terence Carolan, then delivered his report.
In her opening address, Dato Professor Zaliha emphasized the importance of enhancing rehabilitation services through ongoing quality improvement and alignment with international standards.
She pointed out that structured quality frameworks like CARF accreditation can support medical teams in providing person-centered services and improving measurable patient outcomes.
She further emphasized that adopting such approaches will strengthen Brunei's rehabilitation services and support their continual development in line with global best practices.
Building on this, Terence Carolan shared insights into the rehabilitation accreditation framework in his lecture, highlighting key principles such as performance improvement, person-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and structured quality assurance processes in rehabilitation services.
The seminar also outlined international rehabilitation standards and focused on key considerations related to JPMC’s ongoing quality improvement and service development within its rehabilitation programs.
The medical rehabilitation seminar series is part of JPMC’s internal capacity-building initiatives, aimed at strengthening clinical competencies, supporting ongoing professional development, and promoting knowledge-sharing among multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
Through this initiative, JPMC continues to be committed to enhancing rehabilitation services through structured learning, multidisciplinary collaboration, and alignment with international clinical standards.
