Chinese Female Internet Celebrity Deceived into Going to Cambodia to Earn Money—Both Legs Suspected Fractured and Abandoned on Street

A 20-year-old Chinese female internet celebrity was reportedly deceived by her boyfriend into going to Cambodia to make money, suffered abuse, and was suspected to have both legs fractured before being abandoned on the streets of Sihanoukville. At the time, her face was dirty, her hair disheveled and matted, a sharp contrast to her previously glamorous image. On the 4th, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia responded, stating that the embassy’s Sihanoukville office had located her in a local hospital.

The embassy said recent media reports mentioned a Chinese woman stranded on the streets of Cambodia. Upon learning this information, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia immediately contacted Cambodian police, several other departments, and local well-intentioned people to understand and verify relevant circumstances, and actively searched for the person's whereabouts. After several days of inquiries, on the afternoon of January 3, 2026, the Sihanoukville office of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia found the woman with the surname Wu in a hospital in Sihanoukville. At that time, her physical condition was very poor, so the office immediately coordinated to transfer her to another hospital for treatment. According to Wu, she was lured to Cambodia by the promise of a "high-paying job," and later ended up homeless on the street. Currently, her condition has improved, and the embassy's office has contacted her family to arrange for them to handle bringing her back to China.

Recently, several netizens posted that a female internet celebrity from Fujian named Wu Zhenzhen (Umi) was wandering the streets of Cambodia in a distressed state, her legs apparently injured, holding a CT scan photo. According to online reports, her short video account on Douyin had 24,000 followers. On April 14 last year, she posted her second video on Douyin, with the IP already marked as Cambodia; the background appeared to be a bar. She subsequently posted 10 more videos, all with Cambodia IP locations. She went missing after posting her last video on the 6th of last month.

Some informed netizens revealed that she went to Cambodia with her boyfriend from Fujian to make money. Upon arrival she frequently showed off new dresses, fine food, and karaoke outings on her social accounts.

As the incident triggered heated discussion online, "Jimu News" contacted Umi's father, Mr. Wu, who confirmed that the woman wandering the streets was his daughter Wu Zhenzhen. He stated that after graduating from high school, his daughter started working, claiming to be working in Zhejiang, but would often ask the family for money. In total, the family transferred her more than 80,000 yuan. Last November, the family stopped sending her money, but she stayed in touch with them. On December 26, she said her legs had problems and needed money to see a doctor, so the family transferred another 2,200 yuan.

It was only when someone saw photos of Umi wandering the streets online and sought confirmation from the family that Mr. Wu realized he couldn't reach his daughter. After calling the police for help, they learned that she had actually gone abroad to Cambodia in April 2025 and was not in China at all.
