Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) pointed out that the ham and cheese sandwich sold at a university store has not obtained Halal certification (SPHM).
The department posted on Facebook on Monday that they, along with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), completed the investigation last Friday (10th), and found that the company making the sandwiches does not have Halal certification.
“In light of this, the company's act of labeling the sandwich with our Halal sticker violates the 2011 Trade Descriptions Act (Act 730), specifically the 2011 Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order.”
“The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living has taken legal action. Consumers can use ‘Verify Halal’ more often to verify the authenticity of Halal products, ensuring that the relevant Halal certification is recognized by the authorities.”
Director-General of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Azman, stated that upon receiving complaints and the matter spreading on social media, a joint raid was conducted with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department at 1 PM.
In a statement on Monday, he cited preliminary information indicating that the involved company is a factory producing frozen bread sandwiches, and they are using what appears to be an expired Halal logo.
He further stated that the Halal logo on the sandwich belongs to another company, which has ceased operations and was acquired by the company under investigation.
