(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently held an appreciation dinner to recognize the steadfast support of its strategic partners, educators, and volunteers for the BIBD Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspirational Future (ALAF) programme during the 2025 academic year.
BIBD’s Acting Assistant Managing Director and Acting Chief Operating Officer, Mohammad Yusri, attended the dinner as the guest of honour. Also present were educators, members of the BIBD ALAF working group, strategic partners, and volunteers.

This event also reflected BIBD’s sincere gratitude for its close cooperation with educators, whose support is vital in advancing the BIBD ALAF programme. Their contributions have helped nurture a generation of students dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence and upholding the national values aligned with Brunei Vision 2035.
Acting Head of Government Relations & Special Projects of BIBD, Zulhazlan Sa, emphasized the inclusiveness and transformative nature of BIBD’s educational initiatives in his welcome speech.
He stated: The BIBD ALAF programme is a people-centric and highly-inclusive initiative, receiving strong support through the involvement of all segments of society. Tonight’s celebration demonstrates BIBD’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the national education ecosystem.
“We are pleased to announce that, according to the student result reports we have received, the overall academic performance of most students participating in the BIBD ALAF programme has shown significant improvement.”
This progress is encouraging and proves the effectiveness of our implemented methods.
Based on the preliminary results of the mock exams, we remain confident and optimistic that these students will achieve excellent results in this year’s examinations.

He said that without the steadfast support and dedication of all participants, the overall success of BIBD ALAF programme students would not have been possible.

We recognize that behind every achievement lies the hard work of parents and students themselves, as well as the selfless dedication and sacrifice of our teachers.
In the 2025 academic year, the BIBD ALAF programme successfully expanded to 67 schools in Brunei. These include 59 schools under the Ministry of Education’s School Department (JSS), 7 schools under the Department of Islamic Studies (JPI) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Sultan Quranic Studies Institute. Following recent selections, 58 new students have been admitted to the programme and will begin their studies in 2026.

The BIBD ALAF programme has been running for 12 years, continually generating far-reaching impacts. To date, 385 students have participated in the programme, with 90 students currently pursuing further studies at domestic and overseas institutions.
It is worth mentioning that one ALAF alumnus is undergoing pharmacist training at Torbay Hospital in the UK. Additionally, 12 graduates have successfully completed university or vocational education and are now employed in their respective fields.

Upholding its commitment to empowering through education, BIBD has expanded the programme by adding 30 new students in 2025 and providing them with tailored academic support and comprehensive intervention measures to help them overcome learning challenges.

This initiative complements BIBD’s efforts to nurture future-ready young talent, aligning with Brunei Vision 2035.

Since its inception, the BIBD ALAF programme has played a vital role in empowering Bruneian youth through comprehensive academic and financial support.
This sustained impact demonstrates BIBD’s determination to nurture the next generation who will contribute to the nation’s growth and development.
BIBD extends sincere gratitude to its Board of Directors, the Shariah Advisory Body, the management, and all staff, thanking them for their continuous support and contributions to the success of the BIBD ALAF programme.
