Accused of Owing 2.45 Million in Taxes, Britney Spears Denies Allegations

American pop diva "Princess of Pop" Britney Spears once took the world by storm, but in recent years has repeatedly made headlines for erratic behavior. She was recently reported to be in financial trouble, allegedly being pursued by the US Internal Revenue Service for unpaid taxes totaling $600,000 (about 2.45 million Malaysian Ringgit).

In response, Britney has denied owing any taxes, and clarified the truth behind the situation, stating: “The IRS mistakenly attributed $1.4 million (about 5.7 million Malaysian Ringgit) in income from a company established by my father to me, and also failed to include $330,000 (about 1.34 million Malaysian Ringgit) in tax deductions I could claim.” This led to an inflated tax bill, plus an additional penalty of $120,000 (about 490,000 Malaysian Ringgit), prompting Britney to speak up and explain what really happened.

Britney was previously under the conservatorship of her father Jamie, who controlled her finances for nearly 13 years. She only regained her freedom in 2021. In an effort to recover her losses, she chose to take her father to court, but ended up settling out of court. Not only did she not get back a single cent, she also had to pay her father's $2 million (about 8.15 million Malaysian Ringgit) in legal fees.
