Thailand’s popular tourist destination Pattaya will proceed with its International Fireworks Festival in November as scheduled, with adjustments made in accordance with the national mourning period.
Chonburi province’s Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet announced that this year’s International Fireworks Festival is set for November 28th to 29th, with the theme “The Eternal Light of Loyalty” to commemorate Queen Dowager Sirikit.
He said the festival will be adjusted to ensure the atmosphere is fitting and respectful for the solemn occasion.
He also confirmed that the Loy Krathong Festival, which falls during the same period, will proceed as usual in order to uphold Thailand’s cultural traditions.
The Pattaya City Government has invited residents and visitors to wear simple, traditional Thai attire and to adorn black ribbons as a sign of respect and solemnity.
The two-day fireworks festival will feature Khon, the traditional Thai masked dance drama, a cultural treasure that Queen Sirikit dedicated her life to preserving. There will also be a royal music concert on-site, along with image displays showcasing Queen Sirikit’s lifelong royal duties and contributions to the nation.
Before the firework displays start, attendees will observe one minute of silence in mourning for Queen Sirikit.
Queen Dowager Sirikit, mother of King Vajiralongkorn, passed away on the evening of the 24th at Chulalongkorn Hospital, at the age of 93.
