Malaysian artist Danny Kael Lim has been in the industry for 18 years and, on the 7th, held his first personal music sharing session titled “I Didn’t Lose to the World”, announcing his decision to return to his roots as a singer-songwriter. Moving forward, he will focus his career around being a “singer-songwriter”.
After debuting through the 2008 “Astro Star Quest”, Kael Lim has worked as a host, singer, and content creator. He admitted that juggling multiple roles once left him feeling lost, with his unclear direction making it difficult and sometimes awkward to even introduce himself. In the end, he chose to return to his musical roots, refocusing his identity as a “singer-songwriter”, and revealed that his new song “I Don’t Even Know What I Want” reflected his feelings during that time. This EP, released after an 8-year gap, marks a new starting point to reorganize his path. He stated frankly: “From today onward, I want to be a singer-songwriter.”

He also revealed that he had long struggled with emotional and attention issues. Two years ago, after seeking professional help, he was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), and his condition has gradually stabilized through treatment and medication. Describing himself as someone whose “mind just couldn’t stop” in the past, he said he has now learned to slow down and better manage his emotions and life.
When asked about his relationship status, he said his current focus is on music and his career, believing that to maintain a steady relationship, you must first take care of yourself in order to give your partner a sense of security. He also admitted that he used to be impatient and emotionally volatile, so he chose to work on himself first. As for his single status, he joked that there’s never been a shortage of people he gets along with, but due to different beliefs or outlooks, things never progressed further. Asked if he would consider a flash marriage, he replied with a laugh: “I don’t think so!”

The song “I Don’t Even Know What I Want”, which was a centerpiece at the event, was inspired by his period of confusion last year. He confessed that constantly switching between various roles only made him lose himself further—“Who exactly am I?” It wasn’t until this year that he decided to turn those emotions into a song. His friend Phei Yong wrote the lyrics and directed the MV, helping out as a gesture of friendship and charging nothing for his work. On-site, Phei Yong joked: “I only helped him for free because of our friendship—everyone else, don’t ask me!”#
