Canadian Prime Minister Visits the US, Engages in 'Polite Sparring' with Trump

US President Trump met with visiting Canadian Prime Minister Carney at the White House on the 6th, where they engaged in 'polite sparring' on topics such as 'annexing Canada' and tariffs during a media meeting.

When responding to media questions, Trump said that if Canada becomes the 51st state of the United States, it would be a 'wonderful marriage'.

He said, 'This would be a wonderful joining, a perfect marriage. You would get free healthcare, military protection, and various other benefits. As a real estate developer, I believe geographically, the joining of the US and Canada is just meant to be.'

Carney immediately retorted, 'Canada will always be non-negotiable.'

He frankly stated, 'Canada is not a commodity, it will not be for sale, and it will never be for sale. As you know, some real estates are never for sale. The White House we're sitting in right now is an example, and so is Canada.'

Trump responded, 'Never say never.'

When discussing tariffs, Carney reminded Trump that 'Canada is the US's largest customer', while Trump claimed the US 'does not need Canadian cars or steel', stating that 'America has no reason to subsidize Canada', and insisted that he will not waive tariffs on Canadian products.

Carney's Liberal Party won the Canadian House of Commons election on April 28, allowing Carney to continue serving as Prime Minister.

Trump has publicly proposed the idea of 'annexing Canada' multiple times and expressed willingness to achieve this through 'economic power'.
