(Kaboang, 20th) Police today arrested a 38-year-old local man suspected of being involved in drug trafficking activities during a special “Op Tapis” operation at the Saratok District Police Headquarters (IPD Saratok).
Saratok District Police Chief Superintendent Matthew Manji pointed out that the special police operations team conducted the operation in the Kaboang area at around 10 a.m. today based on intelligence, and carried out checks on the suspect.
He said: “During the inspection, police found 8 transparent plastic bags containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine inside the man’s sling bag.”
He stated in a press release today that the suspect is from Kampung Alit, Kabong, and was subsequently arrested on the spot and taken back to the Saratok Police Station for further investigation, including a urine screening.
He said that preliminary urine test results showed the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, further strengthening police suspicion of his involvement in illegal drug use.
“Police investigation records also found that the man has six previous records, involving offenses of drugs, theft, and intimidation.”
He said that the case is currently being investigated under Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
