China's eight ministries have launched a 'AI+Manufacturing' special initiative, proposing that by 2027 key core technologies will achieve secure and reliable supply.
According to China News Service, on the 7th, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Cyberspace Administration of China, the National Development and Reform Commission, and five other ministries jointly released the 'Implementation Opinions on the Special Action of "Artificial Intelligence + Manufacturing"', stating that by 2027, China will achieve secure and reliable supply of key core technologies in AI, maintain a world-leading status in industry scale and empowerment level, and build a globally leading open-source and open ecosystem.
The special initiative lays out key tasks such as strengthening innovation, intelligent upgrading, product breakthroughs, main body cultivation, ecosystem expansion, and safeguarding security.
In terms of technical foundation, AI computing power supply will be strengthened, high-level industry models suited to the characteristics of manufacturing will be developed, a 'model-data resonance' initiative will be carried out, and 'data-driven model empowerment' will be realized.
For application promotion, the initiative will speed up AI empowerment in key industries such as raw materials, equipment manufacturing, consumer goods, and electronic information, and accelerate the intelligent upgrading of entire processes including R&D, pilot verification, production, and marketing services.
According to the goals set out in the implementation opinions, by 2027, 3 to 5 general-purpose foundational models will see deep application in manufacturing; distinctive, fully-covered industry-specific large models will be formed; 100 high-quality industrial data sets will be built; and 500 typical application scenarios will be promoted.
In the field of product innovation, the initiative will drive iterative upgrades of industrial mother machines and intelligent robots, accelerate advancements in smart phones, AR/VR (augmented reality/virtual reality) devices, and cultivate new forms of business such as industrial intelligent agents.
Regarding main body cultivation, by 2027, the initiative aims to cultivate 2 to 3 globally influential ecosystem-leading enterprises and a number of specialized and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), build a group of 'AI-savvy, industry-proficient' empowerment service providers, and select 1,000 benchmark enterprises.
This special action is also accompanied by the release of the 'Key Industrial Transformation Guide for AI Empowering Manufacturing' and the 'AI Application Guide for Manufacturing Enterprises', providing clear pathways for industry transformation and enterprise practice.
