(Johor Bahru, 29th) Less than 48 hours since the nomination day for the Johor state election up until June 28, Johor police have received 7 reports related to the election.

Johor Police Chief Dato’ Rahman disclosed that among these cases, the police have opened three investigation files under Section 435 of the Penal Code (mischief by fire), Section 427 of the Penal Code (committing mischief), as well as Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 or Section 233(3) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Apart from this, Rahman stated in a statement on Monday (June 29) that the public order during the Johor state election remains stable and under control.

“State police will continue to strengthen security management and monitoring in each constituency to ensure that all election procedures are carried out smoothly, orderly, and safely.”

As of now, a total of 3,903 police personnel have been deployed, including 544 officers, 3,247 rank-and-file police, and 112 civilian staff.

“So far, there have been no reports of any events that could affect public order.”

In addition, Rahman also revealed that as of 11:59 p.m. on June 28, Johor police had received 420 applications for election campaign permits, of which 414 have been approved.

“During this period, 191 political events have been held, all of which had police present to supervise and ensure that the activities were in accordance with legal provisions and set conditions.”

To maintain public order and peace, he stated that the police will also continue to monitor social media platforms, and work closely with relevant agencies to address fake news, misinformation, as well as content containing threats or provocations, or anything that could affect public tranquility.

“Illegal behavior will be dealt with strictly.”

On traffic, he mentioned that the overall traffic situation surrounding all election sites is smooth and orderly. “Although there has been an increase in traffic volume at some locations due to crowds, the police’s traffic control measures have resulted in effective management at the scene.”

Police urge all political parties, candidates, supporters, and the general public to continue adhering to the law and demonstrate political maturity. “All parties should avoid any provocative behavior, refrain from spreading fake news or unverified information, and use social media prudently and responsibly.”
