China and India have agreed to accelerate the resumption of direct flights between the two countries and continue to rebuild and strengthen bilateral relations.
According to information released on the official website of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Friday (June 13), Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong visited India for a two-day visit on Thursday (12) and met with Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra.
The article states that both parties reached a consensus to promote the resumption of direct flights between China and India and to take measures to enhance exchanges between media personnel and think tanks from the two countries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, at a regular press conference on Friday, when responding to questions from foreign media about whether it can be confirmed that China and India have agreed to accelerate the resumption of direct flights, suggested that the relevant department on the Chinese side should be consulted.
Lin Jian also pointed out that resuming direct flights between China and India would facilitate the movement and exchange of people between the two countries, aligning with their common interests. China holds a positive attitude towards this and hopes that India will work together with China to promote the resumption of flights soon to ensure safe and orderly travel between the two countries.
According to a Reuters report, China and India reached an agreement in January to resolve economic and trade differences between the two countries. However, in May, a conflict broke out between India and Pakistan, with the Pakistani side claiming to have shot down three Indian aircraft using Chinese-made J-10C fighters. Subsequently, a Chinese internet celebrity uploaded a comedic video titled 'The Newly Bought Plane Got Shot Down,' which caused protests from India, escalating tensions between China and India.
