(Kuching, 10th) Kuching City Football Club (Kuching City FC, KCFC) reiterates that unauthorized use of the KCFC name or logo, as well as the production, distribution, sale, or purchase of unlicensed merchandise, constitutes an infringement of intellectual property rights.
The KCFC management issued an official statement yesterday to remind the public of this matter.
The statement pointed out that this includes any use of the KCFC logo and related brand elements without official permission from KCFC.
The statement reads: “KCFC sincerely thanks its supporters for their continuous enthusiasm and support. Supporters should note that purchasing unlicensed merchandise is an illegal act and does not contribute in any way to KCFC or the KCFC community.”
KCFC also confirms that its trademark application has been formally submitted to the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office (MyIPO) in accordance with the 2019 Trademarks Act.
The statement emphasized: “Although the trademark registration is still being processed, KCFC has already established a good reputation and brand image through participation in sports events, competitions, promotional activities, and commercial operations.
“Any unauthorized use of the KCFC name or logo that may mislead the public into believing that related merchandise is official KCFC merchandise or that activities are recognized and supported by KCFC constitutes ‘passing off’ under applicable Malaysian law.”
KCFC stated that this gives the club the right to take enforcement action against individuals or organizations involved in such activities.
