Penny Tai Stands in Solidarity as GAI’s World Tour Comes to a Fiery Close

China’s renowned rap artist GAI Zhou Yan brought his personal show, the “GAI Evolution” 2026 World Tour, to Malaysia for the very first time, setting the stage ablaze at Genting Arena of Stars on Sunday night. As the grand finale of this tour, GAI delivered a powerhouse performance and surprised the audience by inviting Malaysia’s talented singer-songwriter Penny Tai as a special guest, instantly sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Before introducing Penny Tai on stage, GAI joked that performing “Ming Zhi Shan” (Knowing the Mountain) poorly would get him “beaten up”, to which Penny playfully retorted as soon as she appeared: “I wouldn’t dare beat you, you’re the king, after all!” Her quick comeback sent the entire audience into laughter. Considered “my good sister” by GAI, Penny’s caring personality was on full display as she kept reminding GAI to be careful of blind spots on stage. Their natural and humorous banter had GAI suddenly exclaiming, “It feels like we’re doing a comedy sketch up here!”—swiftly switching the mood and drawing even greater laughter from the crowd.

Penny Tai mentioned that GAI’s fan base spans a wide age range, joking that even her almost 90-year-old father wanted to see him perform. Upon hearing this, GAI instantly adopted a solemn tone to wish her parents good health, promising to give them his best performance, which was highly amusing. Penny also recounted how they met, admitting that although they only ever performed together for “With Feelings,” they have always deeply admired and supported each other, and would never hesitate to help when needed. She said, "Rather than living only for relationships, it’s better to live for fate." She then performed her own song, “Twin Flames.”

At the concert, GAI kicked things off with a powerful rendition of “Kang Long You Hui,” quickly followed by high-energy tracks like “Jiefang Linju” (Neighbors), “Not Friendly,” and more, instantly ramping up the atmosphere. However, he jokingly complained that the audience was being too “well-behaved,” urging: “Don’t sit like you’re at a ballet or an opera; let’s all bring the weekend mood!” With VIP tickets being standing only and the stage set ultra-close to the crowd, electrifying hits like “On the Street,” “Dry Weather,” “Empty Strategy,” “This Is Life,” and others rapidly transformed the entire venue into a giant party scene. As fans finally let completely loose, GAI cheered with satisfaction: “Now THIS is what hip-hop should feel like!”

The “GAI Evolution” World Tour launched in Chongqing in August 2024, spanning over a year and more than 10 cities. Arriving at the final stop in Malaysia, GAI said that although this tour is concluding, a brand-new tour series will kick off soon. Over two hours of performance, he not only delivered many of his signature tracks, but also reprised his renditions of “Qi,” “Gu Xiang, Feng,” “White Dove”—which he previously performed on the popular TV show “Singer 2025.” He also reinterpreted classics such as “Love Like Tides,” “Orchid Grass,” “A Laugh from the Sea,” and others, blending rap with traditional melodies to present Malaysian fans with a unique and emotionally charged music extravaganza.

GAI, who hails from Chongqing, closed the concert with his signature track “Chongqing Soul.” He praised his hometown as a wonderful place, encouraging everyone to visit Chongqing to enjoy the sights and food.
