(Miri, 30th) The Miri Hainan Qinglong Lion Dance Troupe recently sent Troupe Leader Cai Changjian, Coach Li Jingdong, and Assistant Coach Luo Shengcheng to Kuala Lumpur to participate in the 2026 National Southern Lion Dance Level 1 Coach Training Course and the National Lion and Dragon Dance Judge Training Course, organized by the Malaysia National Dragon & Lion Dance Federation. The five-day, four-night training was held at Crystal Crown Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, covering systematic teachings and rigorous judge assessments.
After completing the training, all three participants successfully obtained national-level coaching licenses, and two of them smoothly acquired national-level judging qualifications. These coaching certificates are officially recognized by the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Those certified can provide teaching guidance in primary and secondary schools nationwide, which helps strengthen the local lion dance culture and education system.
This training program attracted about 70 coaches and participants from across the country. The assessment covered several lion dance competition categories, including Traditional Southern Lion, Luminous Southern Lion, High Pole Southern Lion, Obstacle Southern Lion, Southern Lion Drum Techniques, as well as various optional and speed events for Northern Lion and Dragon Dance. In addition, the training featured a distinguished lineup of instructors, including Datuk Xie Guangliang, Chen Shiqiang, Ke Mingcai, Fu Shunhan, and Peng Rongguang and other experienced mentors.
During the training, participants actively exchanged lion and dragon dance techniques and discussed the future development direction of the sport. The on-site learning atmosphere was lively and harmonious.
The Miri Hainan Qinglong Lion Dance Troupe expressed great excitement over the outstanding performance of the three team members. Their advancement not only enhances the overall professional standards of the troupe but also injects new momentum into the promotion and development of lion and dragon dance in Miri and the Sarawak region.
