Plagued by Controversies and Sitting on the Sidelines for Two Years, Former Miss Hong Kong Champion Rebecca Zhu Announces Departure from TVB

Miss Hong Kong alumna Rebecca Zhu has seen her workload at TVB drastically reduced in recent years, frequently sharing glimpses of her luxurious travels on social media. On Thursday (July 30), she officially announced her departure from TVB, thus ending a 15-year-long working relationship.

38-year-old Rebecca Zhu was crowned Miss Hong Kong in 2011. In the early years of her career, she was highly favored by the company, appearing in several acclaimed dramas such as “Triumph in the Skies II,” “Forensic Heroes IV,” and “Brutally Young.” She also won Best Supporting Actress in 2017 for her role in “The Exorcist’s Meter.” However, in recent years, due to involvement in various controversies, she was reportedly “put on ice,” resulting in a sharp decrease in work opportunities. Her last TVB drama was “Anti-Crime Heroes,” which aired two years ago.

On the 30th, Rebecca Zhu posted several photos on social media looking back on her acting career, including pictures with the late artistes Patrick Tse, Benz Hui, and others, as well as highlights from winning Miss Hong Kong and the Best Supporting Actress award. She wrote an emotional post, expressing gratitude one by one to senior executives and mentors who supported and lifted her up over the years, specifically naming executive Virginia Lok, as well as producers Fong Chun-Chiu, Chong Wai-Kin, Wong Wai-Yin, Chung Shu-Kai, and Leung Choi-Yuen.

Rebecca Zhu stated that her acting journey is moving into a new chapter, and she will try her hand at more diverse fields, looking forward to meeting different seniors and producers again: “In the future, I will continue to keep my original aspiration, pursuing my passion along the path of performing arts. I will also try my hand at stories in other fields. Please continue to support and guide me.”

Fong Siu-Chung Ends 17 Years With TVB on the Same Day

Meanwhile, another artiste, Fong Siu-Chung, also announced his departure. On social media he wrote: “Today is my 39th birthday, and just to update everyone: I have just left TVB, where I worked for 17 years. I joined as 'Milk Boy' at 22 years old, and now, in the blink of an eye, I've become the 39-year-old 'Milk Man.'”

He said that over these 17 years, he tried countless roles, worked as a host and a producer, and sincerely thanked all the colleagues, seniors, staff, and viewers he encountered along the way. He concluded: “I hope to use my years of experience to create sincere and heartfelt works for everyone in different places in the future. To all my comrades, see you in the jianghu!”
