Hong Kong Secretary for Security Chris Tang said that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s care and attention to Hong Kong made him feel “deeply warmed and encouraged,” and that the Security Bureau must continue to safeguard development with security as the foundation, living up to the trust placed by the Central Government.

On December 31, Xi Jinping mentioned in his New Year's address that the policy of “One Country, Two Systems” must be upheld unwaveringly, supporting Hong Kong and Macau to better integrate into the country’s overall development and to maintain long-term prosperity and stability.

On January 2, Chris Tang posted on social media: “President Xi’s care and attention to Hong Kong made me feel deeply warmed and encouraged, further strengthening our resolve and sense of mission to proactively align Hong Kong with the national 15th Five-Year Plan (2026 to 2030) and to steadfastly implement the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy.”

He wrote that, faced with a complex and ever-changing international situation, although Hong Kong encountered various risks and challenges in the past year, it has received solid support from the Central Government.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee posted on January 1: “Thank you to President Xi for his inspiring and heartfelt New Year’s address, which further expressed care, support, and expectations for the Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong, and Macau. This is very encouraging for me and motivates us to continue to work hard and forge ahead.”
