Canadian Foreign Minister Anand stated on the 26th that when Canada opens a new consulate in Greenland next week, a Canadian Navy Arctic patrol vessel will arrive on site.
Anand revealed this information to the Canadian Press before departing for Nuuk, the capital of the Danish autonomous territory of Greenland. She will be inaugurating the new consulate.
Anand said that the arrival of the Arctic patrol vessel symbolizes the growing cooperation between Canada and other Arctic nations.
Canada’s plan to establish a consulate in Greenland was previously delayed due to bad weather. Canadian Governor General Simon will attend the opening ceremony.
The Canadian side has reiterated many times that Canada supports Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that the future of Greenland should be decided jointly by Greenland and Denmark.
