China's beverage giant, Nongfu Spring's founder Zhong Shanshan, has revealed plans to create a new type of university that does not yet exist in China, pledging to donate 40 billion RMB (24.424 billion MYR) over the next 10 years.
According to reports from The Paper and Securities Times, Zhong Shanshan disclosed the news of establishing a new type of university for the first time during the annual meeting of Nongfu Spring's parent company, Yangshengtang, on the 22nd.
He said, "The Hangzhou authorities have already announced this news in advance, and I have not yet had the chance to report it to our employees."
Regarding the motivation for establishing the university, Zhong Shanshan stated, "When our economic level has reached a point where we have the ability to contribute to human society, Yangshengtang cannot be absent. In founding this university, we hope to contribute knowledge and make our own efforts to expand the boundaries of human knowledge."
He also mentioned that the university must be innovative, aiming to build a new type of university that does not currently exist in China. “Our commitment to this school is to rely on the accumulation of Yangshengtang and the contributions of every employee present, with plans to donate 40 billion RMB over the next 10 years.”
