(Miri, 23rd) The Miri Lee Clan Association is organizing the 2026 Academic Competition with the aim of promoting Chinese culture, passing on the excellent family traditions of the Lee Clan, and inspiring students' interest in learning through literature, calligraphy, and arts, thus cultivating the cultural literacy of the younger generation.
Sarawak Minister of Transport and Permanent Honorary Advisor of the Miri Lee Clan Association, Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin, said in his speech at today's question announcement and opening ceremony that holding an academic competition is not only for students to compete for awards but more importantly, to provide the younger generation with a platform for learning, exchange, and showcasing their talents.
He said that Chinese culture has a long history, and its transmission from generation to generation depends on society's emphasis on cultural education and the active participation of the younger generation.
"Especially in this era of rapid technological development, children are exposed to more and more information, and learning methods are constantly changing. All the more, we should let the younger generation understand their own culture, language, and traditions, so they know where their roots lie."
He pointed out that the Lee family has always valued education, emphasized the importance of literature, moral cultivation, and diligent study. Therefore, promoting academic competitions carries positive significance.
In his view, by participating in competitions in Chinese literature, calligraphy, and the arts, students can not only gain knowledge, but also cultivate patience, concentration, aesthetic sense, and self-confidence.
Recognized by the Education System
He especially pointed out that the organizing committee for this academic competition applied to and received approval from the Ministry of Education. Students who qualify and participate in the competition according to requirements can obtain PAJSK points.
He explained that PAJSK is an assessment system adopted by the Ministry of Education for sports and extracurricular activities. Students who participate in recognized extracurricular activities, sports, clubs, academics, and other events will have their participation and performance recorded and scored in accordance with relevant regulations.
"Today's children coming here are not just participating in a competition or striving for a certificate or medal. The efforts they put in and the process of participation can also gain recognition in the education system."
He believes this arrangement shows that the organizing committee, when planning activities, focuses not just on the competition itself, but also on providing students with a platform that has both educational value and cultural significance.
He also affirmed the efforts of the organizing committee, council members, youth league, women’s group, and staff, and thanked all supporting entities.
Encourages Students to Embrace Challenges
He encouraged the participating students that, while winning and losing are a part of competition and results are important, what's even more crucial is preparing well, bravely accepting challenges, and learning and making progress throughout the process.
"As long as you are willing to learn, willing to work hard, and stay committed to progress, you are today’s biggest winner."
He also called on parents to continue encouraging and supporting their children, thinking that children's growth requires not only the guidance of schools and teachers, but also the company of families and the platforms for learning and showcasing provided by society.
He hopes that the Miri Lee Clan Association will continue in the future to promote more educational, cultural, and youth activities, so that more young people can understand Chinese culture and pass down fine traditions.
