(Kuching, 5th) The Malaysian Meteorological Department predicts that several areas in Sarawak will face flood risks until the day after tomorrow (7th), as the rain will continue.
In an advisory issued by the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), areas identified as prone to flooding include:
Kuching (Kuching, Bau, Lundu)
Serian ( (Serian, Siburan)
Samarahan (Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan)
Sri Aman
Betong (Betong, Saratok)
Sarikei (Julau, Maradong, Pakan, Sarikei)
Sibu (Sibu, Selangau, Kanowit)
Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Dalat, Matu, Mukah)
Bintulu (Bintulu, Sebauh)
If heavy rainfall continues in coastal areas, the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage will ensure continuous monitoring and timely updates of flood alerts.
However, the department noted that the actual occurrence of floods might differ from the predicted schedule.
Nonetheless, the department urges all relevant management agencies and residents, especially those living in flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and follow the authorities' instructions.
