Mainland China public security reports on the progress of an investigation into a hacking attack, stating that the attack on a technology company was carried out by a hacker organization related to the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The Tianhe Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau released a "police report" on the 27th, stating that a technology company in Guangzhou was attacked by an overseas hacker organization. According to source tracing and technical analysis of the extracted malicious code samples by authoritative institutions, combined with various pieces of evidence obtained by the special task force, it was preliminarily determined that the network attack on the company was carried out by a hacker organization related to the Taiwan DPP authorities.

The report stated that the Tianhe Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau has reported the situation to the relevant departments and will continue to investigate the case, legally cracking down on the related criminal groups and the masterminds behind them.

The report also reminded: “Network security is related to national security and the vital interests of the public. If you encounter or suffer from network attacks, please report to the local public security organs in a timely manner.”

Global Times reported that in recent years, Taiwanese hacker organizations have frequently used public network asset detection platforms to conduct large-scale network asset investigations targeting more than 1,000 important network systems across more than 10 provinces in mainland China (involving military industry, energy, water and electricity, transportation, government, etc.). They collected basic information and technical intelligence of relevant systems and carried out multiple rounds of network attacks using low-end hacking techniques such as phishing emails, exploitation of public vulnerabilities, brute force password cracking, and self-made simple trojan programs.
