Director Wong Jing has been actively developing his social media presence in recent years, turning his talk show Wong Jing's Jianghu Laughs into a flagship program. Because Wong Jing has previously worked with many superstars such as Stephen Chow, Leslie Cheung, and Chingmy Yau, his show is popular among netizens for frequently revealing unknown secrets about various celebrities. Recently, he spoke about his long-time collaborator Chow Yun-fat, revealing that Chow felt out of place when filming The Romancing Star, and even said, "If we make a film like this every year, I won’t even know how to act anymore."
Wong Jing and Chow Yun-fat have worked together on seven films including The Romancing Star, God of Gamblers, and From Vegas to Macau. Recently, Wong mentioned on his show that his favorite is still The Romancing Star. He recalled that everyone was young at the time and had a great time filming, “I shot the film in a wild and crazy style, but Chow (Yun-fat) initially found it difficult to adjust. He almost couldn’t accept the exaggerated performances of people like Natalis Chan and Eric Tsang. I just told him to act as if it were a stage play, and eventually, he got used to it.” Wong Jing quoted Chow Yun-fat’s feelings at the time: “He said, ‘If we make a film like this every year, I won’t even know how to act anymore.’”
Wong Jing pointed out that after that, Chow Yun-fat also acted in similar films, such as The Diary of a Big Man and The Fun, the Luck & the Tycoon. In The Fun, the Luck & the Tycoon, he acted quite wildly opposite Anita Mui. The host remarked that Chow Yun-fat actually has a broad acting range, but Wong Jing believes: “Honestly, I think those years he spent in Hollywood sort of put a pause on his career. I don’t think Hollywood suited him; he’s better suited for Hong Kong and China.”
