(Thailand, 2nd) The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will hold the grand “Maha Loi Krathong Festival” in the historic city of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, centering around the traditional floating lanterns (krathong) activity and incorporating a commemorative ceremony for Queen Sirikit. This endows the festival with a solemn yet heartwarming significance.
This “Maha Loi Krathong @Ayutthaya” will take place at Wat Phra Ram from November 2nd to 6th, 2025, lasting five days. The event aims to pass down this cherished tradition—setting beautiful, decorated krathongs afloat—while paying the utmost respect to the Queen Mother.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand, in collaboration with local government and cultural institutions, has carefully curated the event as an international cultural gala, dedicated to establishing Ayutthaya as a world-class cultural destination that attracts global visitors.
This year’s celebration features special commemorative elements, allowing visitors to experience a solemn atmosphere while touring the Ayutthaya Historical Park and enjoy a dazzling array of cultural performances:
Royal Memorial Zone:
The venue will include a special area for the public to pay tribute and showcase the Queen Mother’s extraordinary achievements and contributions. A massive candlelight memorial ceremony will also be held on site, creating a solemn and moving scene.
Starlight Parade:
The spectacular Nopphamat Queen Procession will be led by 2025 Miss World and Thai Tourism Ambassador, Opal Suchata, with actors Jaja Primrata and Big Sarut also participating, adding further glamour to the festival.
Fusion of Ancient and Modern:
The event will feature a drone light show and traditional fireworks to celebrate the royal glory; visitors can also experience an AI-powered photo booth and try on traditional Thai attire for memorable photos.
Rare Artistic Performances:
The main stage will present seldom-seen traditional performances such as Khon masked drama, Nang Yai shadow puppetry, and royal works performed by renowned artist Gun Napat and saxophone maestro Koh Mr. Saxman.
Interactive Handicrafts:
Visitors can join traditional handicrafts workshops to make small krathongs from natural materials, as well as black ribbon pins symbolizing respect and mourning.
This fusion of tradition, art, and commemoration at the “Maha Loi Krathong Festival” will serve as an important stage to showcase the charm of Thai culture and the spirit of the Royal Family.
