(Nepal 11th) The spring climbing activity on the Nepalese side (South Slope) of Mount Everest officially commenced on the 10th.

There are two main climbing routes for Mount Everest, namely the North Slope on the Tibetan side of China and the South Slope on the Nepalese side.

This year's spring climbing season is the last time the fees will be applied based on the original standard before Nepal adjusts the climbing permit fees for Everest. Starting from September this year, the permit fees for foreigners climbing Everest from Nepal during the spring and autumn seasons will increase from 11,000 USD (approximately 47,300 Ringgit) and 5,500 USD (approximately 23,600 Ringgit) to 15,000 USD (approximately 64,500 Ringgit) and 7,500 USD (approximately 32,200 Ringgit), respectively; the winter and rainy season permit fees will increase from 2,750 USD to 3,750 USD.

On the evening of the 9th, a team of seven Sherpas reached the summit of Everest from the South Slope and completed the rope-fixing work on the peak, officially paving the way for climbing from the Nepalese side this spring.

This team was dispatched by the Nepalese 8K Expedition Company. The company's founder, Lakpa Sherpa, who has summited Everest seven times, mentioned that the first batch of climbers for this spring has currently reached the Everest C2 camp.

According to data from the Nepal Tourism Board, as of May 2nd, 441 climbers have been granted permission to climb the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, from the Nepalese side (South Slope) this spring climbing season, a number exceeding the same period in 2024.
