After Being Elected Chairwoman, Cheng Li-wen Visits Tzu Chi Master; Vows to Transform KMT from a Flock of Sheep to a Pride of Lions

The Kuomintang (KMT) held its National Congress at Taipei Municipal Chenggong High School Gymnasium on the 1st, celebrating the handover between the outgoing and incoming chairs. In her speech, new chairwoman Cheng Li-wen stated that after her election, she visited the Tzu Chi Master in Hualien to explain a new meaning behind the Kuomintang's English abbreviation 'KMT', expressing her hope that the KMT will become Taiwan’s most influential philanthropic organization.

Furthermore, Cheng Li-wen also mentioned that she wants to transform the KMT from a flock of sheep into a pride of lions, saying, “We are a pride of lions, not a pack of wolves. We do not fight violence with violence, nor do we want to become a second DPP. We are the kings of the grassland, we will establish a new order, care for all the disadvantaged, and become a place where people can pursue their dreams and where fairness and justice prevail.”

Cheng Li-wen explained that, after her election, she traveled to Hualien to visit the Tzu Chi Master and elaborate on the Kuomintang’s new interpretation of 'KMT': K for 'Kind', M for 'Mindfulness', and T for 'Team', emphasizing equality among all beings and that every party member in the KMT is equal and indispensable. She hopes that in the future, the KMT will not only be the most important and largest political party, but also Taiwan’s most influential philanthropic organization, with everyone upholding kindness and mindfulness, and demonstrating teamwork to assist the disadvantaged and help the people of Taiwan within their respective communities.

Cheng Li-wen pointed out that, during the election, she had proposed transforming the KMT from a flock of sheep into a pride of lions. She criticized the DPP for fragmenting Taiwan over the years and observed that politics in Taiwan is characterized by constant in-fighting, resulting in two or three decades of exhaustion and stagnation. “Taiwan has no time left; we cannot continue sinking further or allow hatred to spread. I believe that only love can overcome hatred, and only kindness can defeat evil. Therefore, we are a pride of lions, not a pack of wolves. We do not fight violence with violence, nor do we want to become a second DPP. We are the kings of the grassland; we will create a new order, care for all the disadvantaged, and become a place where people can pursue their dreams and where fairness and justice prevail.”

Cheng Li-wen emphasized: “We will become a pride of lions, become the king of Taiwan, and rebuild a new democratic order to restore kindness and justice in Taiwan.” In the future, every member, when going out, will not only represent the Kuomintang but also embody the spirit and values of Taiwan—definitely neither the 'Bluebird', 'Black Bear', nor the DPP. This is the Kuomintang's mission to set things right; we will always stand steadfastly with the people of Taiwan during their hardest and most dangerous times.
