(Sibu, 16th) The Central Region Chapter of the Sarawak Australian Graduates Association (SAGA) will be holding its inaugural “SAGA 2026 Corporate Conference” at RH Hotel, Sibu, from September 7 to 8.
The event aims to provide a platform to strengthen alumni connections, cultivate professional leadership, and promote cooperation in the fields of education, business, and community development.
SAGA Central Region Chapter Chairman Temenggong Dato Sri Lau Lee Ming said the two-day event is supported by the Sarawak Business Events Fund and is expected to draw participation from Australian university graduates from Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and overseas.
He said this event marks another important milestone for the development of the Central Region Chapter. Since its establishment on April 6, 2005, the Chapter is now entering its 21st anniversary this year.
He pointed out that SAGA is not just an alumni organization, but also a platform for fostering unity, strengthening professional networks, encouraging the pursuit of educational excellence, and cultivating a spirit of giving back to society through social, educational, and welfare programs.
“This conference not only brings alumni together, but will also serve as an important platform for establishing strategic partnerships, enhancing leadership skills, and nurturing graduates who can positively contribute to society and the development of Sarawak.”
At a recent press conference, Lau Lee Ming said that the conference also welcomes corporate institutions to participate as strategic partners to jointly expand business networks and support the Association’s future development plans.
He said the participation fee is RM400 per person, which includes leadership training courses, a cultural gala dinner, lunch, morning and afternoon tea, an event T-shirt, a goody bag, a lanyard, notebook, pen, souvenir, personal and group commemorative photos, as well as an electronic certificate.
On another note, the Chairperson of the Conference Organizing Committee, Eta Ting, said this year’s corporate conference is themed “5C”: Connection, Community, Confidence, Celebration, and Culture.
She pointed out that the target groups for the event include three main categories: Sarawakians who graduated from Australian universities or Malaysian campuses of Australian universities, Malaysians (including Sarawakians) currently working or residing in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, as well as international participants.
She said that the first day of the conference will include a members’ meeting and the election of a new board, followed by a four-hour professional networking and leadership training session to help participants enhance confidence, influence, and leadership ability in the workplace and community.
That evening, the organizer will host an Australian Gala Dinner featuring both local and international cuisine, as well as cultural performances.
Expected guests include the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia and Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
On the second day, a cultural exploration tour will be arranged, taking participants to visit longhouses, museums, the night market, and the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF), showcasing Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage and tourism attractions.
