(Miri, 21st) This afternoon, heavy rain and strong winds caused water to overflow from the drainage pipe of one of the pillars at Miri Airport, leading to leakage.
Regarding this incident, Sarawak's Minister of Transport, Dato Seri Lee Kim Shin, quickly contacted Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to assess the situation. MAHB has confirmed that they have dispatched contractors to the site for inspection and to take necessary remedial measures.
Dato Seri Lee Kim Shin urged the airport management to conduct a comprehensive inspection of Miri Airport's infrastructure to prevent similar incidents from happening again and to avoid affecting the experience of arriving passengers. He pointed out that the existing infrastructure at Miri Airport is over 20 years old, so while the airport expansion plan is underway, equal attention should be given to the maintenance and repair of existing facilities.
He reiterated that ensuring passenger safety and providing a good airport environment are crucial, and he promised to work closely with relevant units to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
