Hong Kong movie king 'Fat Gor' Chow Yun-fat was recently reported to be looking to sell his 'Sunshine Garden' residence located at 48 Mount Kellett Road, a traditional luxury neighborhood on The Peak. It is understood that after purchasing the property 16 years ago, Fat Gor has never lived there. Since 2022, the price has been reduced three times, and the current asking price is about NT$660 million (around RM83.08 million), but there is still little interest.
However, the always easygoing Fat Gor doesn’t seem at all anxious about the sale, and his overall real estate investments continue to do well. This April, he successfully sold a three-bedroom unit at Scenic Garden on Caine Road in Mid-Levels West, which he had held for about 31 years, for HK$7.5 million (about RM3.91 million), making a profit on paper of HK$3.58 million (about RM1.86 million).
According to market insiders, the extremely low-key Fat Gor currently holds at least seven properties or plots spread across luxury locations such as The Peak, Kowloon Tong, and Sai Kung, with a total market value conservatively estimated to have exceeded HK$1 billion (about RM520 million).
Chow Yun-fat and his wife Jasmine Tan have lived in their Kowloon Tong residence on Kambaraon Road, which they purchased in 1990 for HK$14.7 million (about RM7.66 million), ever since. That property is now valued at over NT$400 million (about RM50.35 million).
Despite his considerable wealth, Fat Gor remains fond of living a simple, down-to-earth lifestyle. He frequently rides buses and dines at affordable cha chaan tengs, and his humble and approachable ways have often earned praise from netizens.
