(Sibu, 30th) Bawang Assan state assemblyman Dato Sri Huang Shun Ge has promised to continue promoting the agenda of inclusive development in his constituency, ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the pursuit of progress.
He stated that defending the welfare of rural communities, especially within his constituency, will always be his top priority during his tenure in public office.
"As long as the people trust me and allow me to continue serving as their representative, I will always firmly support inclusive and comprehensive development. I hope to ensure that no community in Bawang Assan is left behind." He said this in his speech during the Rolling Mat ceremony held last Saturday at Bukit Besai Menisawang longhouse in Sibu.
Huang Shun Ge added that mere infrastructure development is not enough; social development and cultural empowerment are equally important.
In this regard, he affirmed the important role of the Iban community in Bukit Besai in preserving cultural heritage and identity through the Gawai festival and the Rolling Mat ceremony.
He pointed out that the Rolling Mat ceremony not only marks the end of the Gawai festive season, but also symbolizes the cultural strength and unity of rural communities. Such traditions must continue to be preserved as the country develops.
"These traditions reflect a strong sense of identity. We must move forward, but we must never forget our cultural roots. This is also part of the development we are promoting—a development that values both values and heritage."
Huang Shun Ge also praised the spirit of unity among the people of Sarawak, who are able to celebrate various festivals in an atmosphere of harmony and mutual respect.
"The true strength of Sarawak lies in unity amid diversity," he said.
Therefore, he called on the people to remain united, starting from the grassroots, and to strive for the development of a more prosperous and peaceful Sarawak.
"Development must be comprehensive and based on fairness. We cannot allow anyone to be marginalized, especially in rural areas such as Bawang Assan," he said.
The Rolling Mat ceremony also included cultural performances, traditional food, and the symbolic "rolling of the mat" ceremony marking the official end of the Gawai festival season.
