Wong Kar-wai in Hot Water Again: Audio Leaks Reveal 'Blossoms' Producer Involved in Drug Controversy

The hit drama 'Blossoms' staff member Gu Er (real name Cheng Junian) has repeatedly blown the whistle, exposing not only a dispute over scriptwriting credit and compensation, but also revealing various disparaging remarks made in private by director Wong Kar-wai and screenwriter Qin Wen about the actors—causing Wong Kar-wai's reputation to take a tumble. As a result, Gu Er was sued by the production team for defamation, with a court hearing scheduled for the 21st of this month. However, Gu Er has not backed down; on the 9th, he further released several audio recordings claiming that producer Peng Qihua was involved in drinking and cross-border transporting 'ayahuasca', a substance containing controlled ingredients, and it seemed that Wong Kar-wai was aware of it.

Despite facing a lawsuit and an upcoming court date, Gu Er has continued to release audio files through the internet. In one segment, 'Blossoms' producer Peng Qihua is heard talking about drinking ayahuasca, which she brought into Hong Kong from South America. Screenwriter Qin Wen is heard saying at the scene, "Give me a sip," while Wong Kar-wai laughs and says, "Just a little is enough, otherwise something might happen again," adding a layer of intrigue. Peng Qihua is Wong Kar-wai's regular producer and the executive general manager of 'Jet Tone Films'. As for ayahuasca, it is a traditional herbal brew from the Amazon region of South America, mainly prepared from the ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and leaves from plants containing the powerful hallucinogen DMT (dimethyltryptamine). In indigenous shamanic cultures, it is used for religious ceremonies and spiritual healing, but due to its potent psychedelic effects, it is classified as a controlled substance in most countries.

At present, only the audio recordings and written meeting summaries released solely by Gu Er are available; the production team has yet to respond, and there is no news of law enforcement involvement or any investigation.
