Iran's Fars News Agency reported on the 3rd that the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Khamenei, will be buried in the holy city of Mashhad, Iran. The date of the funeral is yet to be announced.
Khamenei died in an attack on Iran by the United States and Israel. The Iranian government subsequently issued a statement announcing 40 days of national mourning and the closure of public institutions for seven days.
Khamenei was born in Mashhad in 1939. In October 1981, Khamenei was elected President of Iran and was re-elected until 1989.
As President, he led the country through the Iran-Iraq war. In June 1989, Iran's first Supreme Leader Khomeini passed away. Khamenei was then appointed Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts in Iran.
