On the 29th, American news website Axios reported that on the 28th, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated in an interview with the outlet that, in order to defend against Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, he had requested US President Trump urgently provide "winter assistance," including 300 Patriot air defense interceptor missiles.
Zelensky pointed out that he made this request to Trump during his visit to the US, because Ukraine's current stockpile of air defense interceptors is nearly depleted. If resupply cannot be made before winter, Russian missile strikes may destroy Ukraine's power facilities and affect heating for Ukrainians.
He revealed that on the 28th, Trump agreed during their meeting at the White House to "move forward" with granting Ukraine production licenses for Patriot air defense interceptor missiles. However, even with US authorization, mass production would take one to five years, so he hopes the US can provide 300 Patriot interceptors before winter arrives.
Zelensky pointed out that although Trump promised to do his best to help, he also made it clear that, as the US military also needs interceptor missiles for operations against Iran, providing the relevant assistance to Ukraine would not be easy.
On the morning of the 28th, Trump held a closed-door meeting at the White House with the visiting Zelensky. After the meeting, Zelensky said that the two sides discussed Ukraine's production of Patriot air defense interceptor missiles and revitalizing the diplomatic process to end the Ukraine crisis.
