(Kuching, 12th) The implementation of automatic voter registration for individuals aged 18 and above has significantly increased the number of voters in the Saribas state constituency.
According to Sarawak Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing and Saribas State Assemblyman Datuk Raz, after the implementation of this policy, the increase in the number of voters in the Saribas state assembly constituency was the highest in the Betong parliamentary constituency.
“Within the Betong parliamentary constituency, it can be said that since the automatic voter registration system for those aged 18 and above has been implemented, the Saribas constituency has seen the largest increase in voter numbers.”
He said that previously, many people were not registered to vote, not just those aged 18 and above—even those in their 40s, 50s, and 60s were also automatically registered as voters based on their current address.
Raz made these remarks during a media interview after attending the Hari Raya 2026 celebration at the Customs Academy multipurpose hall today.
He added that residents living outside the Saribas constituency can still retain their original address and thus continue to be registered as voters in that area.
In terms of statistics, Raz said that the number of voters in the Saribas constituency now exceeds 17,000, compared to about 11,000 during the previous term.
Clearly, in his first term…when he first ran for Saribas state assemblyman, the constituency had only 8,000 voters, while the previous two terms had around 11,000 voters.
“So, after we carried out campaigns to raise voter awareness and implemented the automatic voter registration system, it now seems we have 17,000 voters.”
