AirBorneo Pledges Stable Airfares, No Price Hikes During Festive Seasons

(Kuching, 14th) AirBorneo will not increase air ticket prices during festive periods. Ticket prices will be strictly calculated based on operating and fuel costs to ensure that the people of Sarawak enjoy affordable and stable air travel.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, while attending the “Townhall 9 Tahun Bersama YAB Premier Sarawak” event at the Kuching Hikmah Exchange Centre last night (Jan 13), stated that the establishment of this state-owned airline is aimed at “connecting people” rather than, like usual commercial airlines, maximizing profits.
He said that while other airlines often hike ticket prices significantly during peak times such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, AirBorneo will not adopt this pricing strategy.
He said: “We will not raise ticket prices in that way, because AirBorneo’s role is to serve as a connector for the Sarawak people, just like the bridges we build to link different regions.”

Addressing online discussions regarding AirBorneo’s ticket prices, Abang Johari clarified that ticket prices are calculated solely based on operating and fuel costs, and there is no price gouging.
He explained that the total cost of a flight is averaged out based on the number of passengers the plane can carry.
He said: “If a plane can take 90 passengers, the total cost is divided by 90. As long as the operating costs are covered, that’s enough.”
Abang Johari added that one of AirBorneo’s objectives is to help stabilize market ticket prices, especially for routes to Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur remains a crucial hub for Sarawakians to seek medical treatment and attend to other important matters.
