Chinese actress Esther Yu attended as the Global Ambassador of iQIYI International, lighting up the Malaysia stop of the 2026 ‘iQIYI Starship Project’. For her first visit to Malaysia, she acted cute and playful on site, danced energetically, and her adorable and sweet voice almost melted the whole audience of Malaysian ‘Little Pomegranates’ (her fans’ nickname)!

On Tuesday night (7th), Esther Yu appeared at Zepp Kuala Lumpur to kick off the 2026 global tour of the ‘iQIYI Starship Project’. As the global ambassador for iQIYI International, this trip also marked her first close encounter with Malaysian ‘Little Pomegranates’ (her fans’ nickname). The soft and sweet vibe at the venue was off the charts, setting off waves of screams.

That night, Esther Yu appeared in a light green printed long dress, embellished with tiny purple flowers, featuring a halter neck design that accentuated her elegant neckline. She looked as if she wore a spring garden, exuding both ethereal beauty and sweetness, captivating the audience the moment she stepped on stage. Adapting to the local culture, she greeted everyone with, “Apa Khabar, saya Esther Yu,” using a cute, doll-like voice, which instantly fired up the crowd; after hearing enthusiastic responses from fans, she took the initiative to learn “Terima Kasih” (thank you) and “Aku Cinta Padamu” (I love you), making cute and sweet gestures as she spoke, melting hearts in the audience.

Mentioning Malaysian food, she said with a laugh that she had already tasted satay on the plane, but had to control herself for the fans. Still, she couldn’t resist revealing that after the event she'd like to try more local dishes. When asked by the host where she was planning to eat after work, she quickly and wittily replied, “I can’t tell you. If I do, I’ll have to queue up!” Her humorous and straightforward answer drew a burst of laughter.

Esther Yu won the Most Popular Female Character in Mainland Drama at Malaysia’s iQIYI 2025 Annual Awards for her role as Jiang Mu in the series ‘Double Tracks’. She described the character as brave and a little bit cheeky, just like herself. Talking about the most challenging part, she admitted that the crying scenes spanning ages from 18 to 27 were tough, as the emotional layers at different ages varied and she had to make viewers believe in her at each stage, which required a lot of study and thought.

Apart from acting, she also shared her upcoming projects, including the completed voice work for the urban youth drama ‘Brilliant as the Stars’, the recently wrapped fantasy costume drama ‘Yun Chu Ling’, and an upcoming new song recording. When fans called out hoping she would hold a concert in Malaysia, she cutely pouted and playfully replied, “That depends on whether there are enough people!” showing her honest and direct personality.

During an interactive segment, Esther Yu and famous Malaysian YouTuber Jestinna Kuan had a dance-off, not only trying a traditional Malay dance but also performing the fans’ favorite ‘Esther Yu March’, bringing the atmosphere to a climax. Later, she shared the stage with TV2 Mandarin news anchor Rasidah, and under her guidance learned that “pomegranate” in Malay is “Delima”, and sweetly praised, “Delima sangat comel” (Pomegranate is really cute), successfully winning fans’ hearts.

Claiming she loves playacting, she also taught Rasidah on site how to deliver one of the “Little Orchid” classic lines from ‘Love Between Fairy and Devil’. As for the game where she had to guess objects from inside a box, Esther Yu boldly reached her hand inside without hesitation, then said, “I’ve played this game many times, plus I have you (fans) watching over me!”

Talking about her future career, she hopes for opportunities to take on more diverse roles, even jokingly saying she wants to play a fairy. When asked if she’d be interested in filming in Malaysia, she said she’s particularly interested in variety or food-related shows and looks forward to experiencing the local culture in depth.
