(Kuching, 26th) The Stampin Parliamentary Constituency's "Primary School Digital Teaching Plan" has expanded to Batu Kawa National School today! Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen delivered a check of 108,000 ringgit to the school's Parent-Teacher Association for the installation of 8 smart televisions in 8 classrooms!
On September 12th, Chong Chieng Jen was invited to attend the "Prosperous Unity" event jointly organized by three primary schools of completely different backgrounds (National School, Missionary School, and Chinese Primary School) in Batu Kawa National School, Batu Kawa National-Type Chinese Primary School, and Batu Kawa St. David's Primary School. He promised the school that he would seek funding to implement the installation of smart television teaching equipment in the classrooms this year. Three months later, he personally brought the check to the school, demonstrating his characteristic efficient style of "doing what he says".
Chong Chieng Jen explained that the "Primary School Digital Teaching Plan" in the Stampin Parliamentary Constituency aims to equip all primary school classrooms in the area with advanced smart televisions to enhance students' teaching and learning efficiency.
He elaborated that his service center launched this program at the beginning of this year and will continue into next year, covering 36 primary schools in the constituency, including Chinese, missionary, and national schools, expected to benefit approximately 15,000 students.
Chong Chieng Jen revealed that the program was initially "piloted" in several Chinese schools over two years ago, and once these schools switched to the smart televisions provided by his service center for teaching and learning, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Teachers and students welcomed the equipment enthusiastically, with the school reporting that the smart televisions significantly increased students' interest in learning, improved attendance rates, and made teaching processes more efficient.
After two years of active promotion, Chong Chieng Jen revealed that almost all Chinese schools in the Stampin area are equipped with advanced smart televisions, benefiting nearly 10,000 Chinese primary school students. Therefore, from next year, his service center will fully promote this digital teaching plan in all national schools in the Stampin area to benefit more students.
More importantly, Chong Chieng Jen stated that the switch to smart televisions in classrooms allowed many students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to access the internet and modern smart devices at school. Many local students may not have the opportunity to use these advanced devices at home, but with classrooms equipped with smart televisions, they can personally experience how these devices aid their learning.
Chong Chieng Jen pointed out that the smart television functions similarly to a smartphone, capable of connecting to the internet for instant browsing and Google searches. Students can also participate in extracurricular activities online, such as watching YouTube educational channels, to gain additional extracurricular knowledge, enhance their competitiveness, and lay a solid foundation for their future skill development. Teachers can also pre-store teaching materials on the televisions for immediate display, greatly enhancing classroom teaching efficiency.
"In today's era, the use of the internet and technology is an indispensable part of modern education. If students cannot master or use these technologies, they risk being left behind by the times. Therefore, we have the responsibility to provide a digital teaching environment for students, helping them access and master the necessary skills and knowledge from a young age."
With the funding for smart televisions handed over to the school today, Chong Chieng Jen was informed that the school is still awaiting approval from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) for installation.
In light of this, Chong Chieng Jen calls on the Sarawak Public Works Department to expedite the approval process, so the school can quickly arrange for suppliers to install the equipment, aiming for completion before the next academic year starts.
Chong Chieng Jen believes that the installation of smart televisions is entirely to help students learn better, and authorities should not impose unnecessary hurdles or bureaucratic red tape, depriving them of their basic learning rights.
