(Miri, 22nd) Northern Sarawak Journalists Association president Chai Chon Chin stated that over the past year, our news industry has faced numerous challenges, but we remain unwavering and bravely meet the ever-changing challenges of the media industry.
He said that in the digital age, we must continue to uphold the professional spirit of journalism, adhere to values of integrity, accuracy, and fairness, while actively adapting to new technological developments to embrace future opportunities.
Chai Chon Chin made these remarks during a speech at the media appreciation night and 2025 Chinese New Year gathering hosted by Dato' Chen Shaoyao and organized by the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association at Shengcheng Hotel.
He also said that tonight we not only celebrate the Lunar New Year but also take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to the hardworking journalists who tirelessly provide the public with authentic and timely news information.
“I also sincerely thank Dato' Chen Shaoyao for his generous support and for hosting this grand event for three consecutive years. Your enthusiastic support and selfless dedication fully demonstrate your deep concern for the media industry and promote the unity and development of the journalism sector.”
He pointed out that while celebrating the new year, we must also pay tribute to the broad media workers. Reporters, editors, photographers, and all media personnel are not only information disseminators but also defenders of social justice. Media, as an important bridge between people and facts, ensure social transparency and accountability.
“Tonight is a night of gratitude, and I especially want to thank Dato' Chen Shaoyao for his long-term support of our association, especially in the Member's Children Education Scholarship Program. Your sponsorship, now in its ninth year, has generously helped many families ease their financial burdens, while also encouraging the younger generation to bravely pursue their dreams. This is not only financial assistance but also an investment in the future of society.”
He expressed his heartfelt wishes for everyone's prosperity, health, and family happiness in the upcoming Year of the Snake! Let us continue to work together to advance the media industry in Northern Sarawak and Miri toward a brighter future.
The event was attended by 60 members and their children from the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association.
