Chinese President Xi Jinping walked onto the red carpet in front of Beijing's Great Hall of the People to meet with U.S. President Trump. The two shook hands and exchanged greetings for 14 seconds.
Xi Jinping said to Trump: “This year marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. I extend my congratulations to you and the American people. I have always believed that the common interests between China and the U.S. outweigh our differences. Each country’s success is an opportunity for the other. Stable China-U.S. relations are beneficial to the world. When our two sides cooperate, both benefit; when we fight, both are harmed. We should be partners, not rivals—helping each other achieve common prosperity as we find a right way for major countries to get along in a new era.”
Trump responded that he was very happy to visit China again, that the welcoming ceremony was amazing, and that the two countries have a long-standing friendship. Whenever problems arise, communication is always immediate.
