According to reports, on the 10th, Yan Dong, Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Commerce, said that they are studying and promoting the joint establishment of a single free trade zone by China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The 10th Belt and Road Summit Forum was held on the morning of the 10th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Official Hong Kong radio reported that Yan Dong said in his speech at the forum that the Ministry of Commerce fully supports Hong Kong’s participation in jointly developing the Belt and Road Initiative, helping Hong Kong expand into the Chinese and international markets.
He stated that the Ministry of Commerce will continue to support Hong Kong’s deep connectivity both domestically and internationally, as well as expand China’s opening up to Hong Kong in areas such as finance, construction, and tourism. They will also study and promote the joint establishment of a single free trade zone among China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
In addition, Yan Dong said that economic and trade cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative has achieved fruitful results. Last year, China’s goods trade volume with Belt and Road participating countries exceeded 3 trillion US dollars (12.62 trillion ringgit). The Ministry of Commerce supports Hong Kong in consolidating and strengthening its position as an international financial, shipping, and trade center, and in playing a bridging role in the Belt and Road Initiative’s infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, and financial integration.
