(Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st) During the informal APEC Economic Leaders’ Dialogue, His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei held a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, during which both sides held in-depth discussions on deepening cooperation and regional issues.
During the meeting, His Majesty the Sultan emphasized that Brunei and Vietnam have established a strong comprehensive partnership in the areas of trade, energy, and people-to-people exchanges. In particular, trade cooperation in aquaculture and Halal food has been further consolidated through the implementation of joint action plans.
On the topic of energy cooperation, His Majesty stated that relevant projects are progressing smoothly, and welcomed continued strengthening and development of collaboration in oil and natural gas exploration.
His Majesty also congratulated Vietnam on being successfully re-elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (2026–2028), and expressed strong confidence that Vietnam will make positive contributions towards the promotion of human rights protection.
The talks also covered a wide range of regional and international topics, with both parties exchanging views on matters of common concern.
Brunei and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on February 29, 1992, and upgraded them to a comprehensive partnership in 2019. The relations between the two countries are stable and mutually beneficial, with cooperation covering many sectors such as trade, energy, education, and cultural exchanges.
