(Selangor, 28th) — The search and rescue operation for the boy swept away by river rapids continues on Thursday, police said.
9-year-old Malay boy Muhammad Aakif Imran, who hails from Kampung Sungai Nilam, Gedangsa, Hulu Selangor, Selangor, was reported missing by a Malay woman at around 1:45pm on Wednesday (27th). She told police that the boy fell into the river and disappeared while playing at the riverside.
According to Hulu Selangor District Police Chief Superintendent Ibrahim, the missing boy was playing by the riverbank when he accidentally got swept away by the strong current.
In a statement, he said that at the time of the incident, the boy was wearing a pink short-sleeved shirt and black shorts.
He stated that police, together with the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Department, set up an on-site command center (PKTK) to conduct search and rescue operations.
He said the search operation commenced at 2pm that day and continued until 7pm, when it was temporarily halted due to darkness, and would resume the following morning.
He added that a total of 48 personnel from various agencies—including the Fire and Rescue Department, Police, Civil Defense Force, Ministry of Health, Land and District Office, Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), and other volunteer groups—were mobilized for the operation.
