47-year-old Sze Kei Yeung is well-known in the industry for being frugal. After winning the Miss Hong Kong pageant in 2011, she followed her mother’s advice—her mother once worked in a bank—and bought a house. In recent years, reports have stated that Yeung owns about five properties, as well as diversified investments in stocks, funds, bonds, and foreign exchange, amassing a net worth in the tens of millions. She is undoubtedly a little rich woman in showbiz.
Recently, Sze Kei Yeung accepted an exclusive interview with HK01. Regarding rumors about her considerable wealth, she responded with a smile: “Ever since I entered the industry, I’ve relied on my own hard work. Many people have looked up what properties I own, but actually, it’s all the result of my efforts. I’m really happy that I have the ability—even the confidence to speak a little louder.”
Many years ago, the late talent Choi Lan once advised Yeung not to be too thrifty. Yeung laughed and said: “Maybe he thought that for artists, the image you create, the outfits, makeup, shoes, look—all those expenses are worth it, because that’s your brand. But I’m a ‘frugal girl’, and I’m a housing estate Miss Hong Kong, so I believe in spending where appropriate. The most important thing is to wear something that suits me, looks comfortable and natural, and expresses my own style. Actually, it doesn’t matter what you wear, it doesn’t have to be at sky-high prices. You can wear something mid-priced or even cheaper—as long as you match it well, it’s ok.”
