Chinese President Xi Jinping has issued important instructions regarding flood control and disaster relief, emphasizing the need to fully organize emergency rescue, treatment of the injured, and resettlement of the affected population. He called for concrete efforts in all aspects of disaster prevention and relief work to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. The flood disaster in Nanning, Guangxi has resulted in 2 deaths, affecting about 55,000 people.

On the evening of the 6th, a press conference on flood control and disaster relief was held in Nanning, Guangxi. The briefing stated that from 8:00 a.m. on July 4 to 7:00 p.m. on July 6, Nanning City experienced widespread heavy rain to torrential rain, causing overtopping and breaches at Liulan Reservoir and Yunbiao Reservoir in Hengzhou City. According to preliminary statistics, the flood disaster in Nanning, Guangxi has affected about 55,000 people, with 48,000 already evacuated. As of now, police have reported 2 deaths caused by the flood disaster.

Since July 3, under the influence of 'Maysak', a breach occurred at Yunbiao Reservoir in Yunbiao Town, Hengzhou City, Nanning, Guangxi, and several downstream villages have suffered severe flooding. Jiemian News reporters contacted villagers of Yabo Village in the affected area and learned that at present, over a thousand villagers have been relocated to nearby hills for safety. There is a shortage of food, infants have developed fevers, elderly people have been bitten by snakes, and several villagers are still out of contact.

Currently, Nanning City and Hengzhou City have deployed emergency response, fire rescue, water conservancy, armed police, and other rescue forces. However, as all roads have been submerged, efforts are being made to dispatch assault boats and other watercraft to try to reach the stranded villages.

In addition, since July 4, significant rising water levels have occurred on the main stream of the Xijiang River in the Pearl River Basin and its tributaries the Liujiang, Yujiang, and Guijiang rivers. A total of 77 rivers have experienced floods exceeding warning levels, with the excess ranging from 0.02 to 5.80 meters. Forty rivers have seen their highest floods on record, and certain reservoirs have encountered major emergencies.
